Puto Bumbong

Last night, around 10:30pm, while typing away in YM, I felt hungry. I yelled at my brothers who are both upstairs, playing their PlayStation (evident by the hi-yah! sound effects I hear everytime they play the 2-player versus games) and asked them to buy me something to eat. And then, as if I got struck by lightning, I shrieked. I yelled, "PUTO BUMBONG!"

Yummy Puto Bumbong!

I prolly looked so stupid, jumping up and down, up and down, while making my brothers go down and hurry to buy me puto bumbong. My mom told me to come along with them and buy. And because I was excited, even if I have quite a few YM windows open and active, I left my beloved pc to buy puto bumbong. So, I immediately went inside the car and we're off to the puto bumbong stand (located in an abandoned building, what used to be a popular local movie house, before SM invades Cavite) where we always buy our puto bumbong and bibingka.

Going against the belief that everything changes, still, some things never change. Just like when I was a kid, while waiting for my puto bumbong, I can't take my eyes of those two hands preparing the puto bumbong for me. The girl behind those eyes might have changed but the same feeling towards the puto bumbong didn't. Just like a kid, I follow those hands around with my eyes. Observing how fast they are moving from one bamboo tube to another. Shifting from putting the violet powder in to putting them on the steamer and then pulling them out and do the "taktak" to reveal the hot violet puto bumbong. And I can't contain my excitement when those hands start to spread the margarine and sugar and the coconut shreds. Yeeeee.... Super excited to take home the bag full of puto bumbongs!

And then, even before the car went into a full halt in the garage, I jumped out of the car. And I was told off by my Dad for doing that. I really wanted to eat the puto bumbong! I have waited long enough. As soon as I dropped the plastic on the table, I opened it very quickly...

The moment the puto bumbong tickled my taste buds, I knew right away I was right.

Waiting for one whole year for the puto bumbong is all worth it.

Waiting for something you really want, no matter how long it is, is worth it. You just have to believe it will come. It may not be like puto-bumbong that comes along every Christmas season, but you know it will come anyway. And as soon as you see the opportunity of getting it, seize the moment. Never take your eyes off it or it may just run away from you or someone might steal it away. And the moment you feel it in your hands, you'll realize, waiting (and hoping) is nothing if that is what you get.

I wonder... Who's gonna be my puto-bumbong? :)
